The NHS Employers organisation sets the recruitment standards for NHS Trusts in England. Reciprocal arrangements are in place across Scotland and Wales. All job seekers will be asked to evidence valid right to work in the UK, referee details, proof of address, medical information, and proof of any qualifications which are deemed necessary for the post being applied for.
NHS Trusts may also be required to obtain a criminal record check. Any such requirement will be confirmed in a letter issued by the NHS Trust confirming your provisional offer. In some cases, the NHS Trust will pay the fee for this type of check on your behalf; however, some may have arrangements in place to recoup the fee over a period of time, from your salary. Local arrangements in regard to the payment of criminal record checks will be confirmed in the provisional offer letter from the Trust. Any correspondence communicated by email will be issued by an NHS email address. The cost of an enhanced disclosure [with the DBS] is £44, there may be a small admin fee but you should not be asked to pay more than £70 for this.
In some cases, for professions that have been identified as being in shortage in the UK, NHS Trusts may offer to cover re-location charges for workers moving from overseas, but this is the exception not the rule, and every effort must be made to ensure this is legitimate and not a scam before you part with any money for travel, visas, etc., It is unusual the NHS would organise your travel and visa, so be cautious of any requests for money.
